About the Online Markdown Viewer

Open and read Markdown files online. Drop a .md file onto the page (or click Open) and it is displayed as a cleanly formatted document — headings, lists, task lists, tables, links, images, blockquotes and syntax-highlighted code blocks — instead of raw text with asterisks and hashes.

It is the easiest way to read a README, documentation or notes when you do not have a Markdown app installed, for example on a work computer or a Chromebook. Use “Paste / edit source” to view Markdown copied from anywhere, and “Print / Save as PDF” to print the formatted document or save it as a PDF with your browser.

Files are read locally with JavaScript and never uploaded.

How to use Markdown Viewer

  1. Open a file. Drag and drop a .md, .markdown or .txt file, or click “Open .md file”.
  2. Read. The document is rendered with GitHub-style formatting, word count and reading time.
  3. Print or edit. Click “Print / Save as PDF”, or open the source to paste or change the text.
