About the Markdown to JSON Converter

Convert a Markdown document into structured JSON. Headings become keys and nested headings become nested objects; lists become arrays, paragraphs become strings, tables become arrays of objects and task lists become {text, done} items — a quick way to turn notes, FAQs or content written in Markdown into data for an app, a static site or an API.

Choose 2-space, 4-space or minified output and optionally convert keys to lowercase slugs.

How to use MD to JSON

  1. Paste Markdown. Paste a document or upload a .md file.
  2. Set formatting. Choose indentation and whether keys should be slugs.
  3. Copy JSON. Copy the JSON or download it as a .json file.

Frequently asked questions

How is Markdown mapped to JSON?

Each heading becomes a key, and sub-headings become nested objects inside it. Content under a heading becomes its value: a paragraph becomes a string, a list becomes an array, a table becomes an array of row objects and a code block becomes a string. If a heading has both its own text and sub-headings, the text is stored under a "content" key.

Can I get minified JSON?

Yes. Choose “Minified” in the indent setting.

Is it private?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Your text is never uploaded to a server, so it is safe to use with private or confidential documents.
